What is Expression Sheet in a JRPG Game?

Hello Guys, well, last thing i was doing about my project was drawing the “Third” Main Character, you will understand better when the project get more advanced and I post more about my game. 🙂 And i just have one thing to say “Drawing hands is a #$%# #$%#$%#$”. And if you desire to see more tutorials by me here, I will TRY post a tutorial every Sunday and Wednesday. Design Tutorial I don’t pretend to do because I’m not good enough for this, BUT I will try to suggest some inspirations and good links if you want to “learn” or to “get inspired” for drawing or paint or designing your project.

Before I start to “talk” about Sprites…

Today I will “talk” about something important if you desire to do a game with dialogs, more commonly in a JRPG or Japanese Games in General. Even if you are doing a game with RPGMaker or something like that you will probabily need if you looks for originality is a “Expression Sheet” or also known as “Character Settei (キャラクター設定)”.

Well What is that?

Tutorial Cocos2d Create Your Simple Game – 1: Installing Cocos2d

Hellow, posting here my first mini-tutorial, it is a very simple tutorial: “How to install Cocos2D”

A common question is “Is possible develop app for iOS using windows?”.

I really don’t know if I’m right, but the answer is Yes, but not by the conventional way, thats mean by XCode and your native language, beside you can use some application for this like Macromedia Flash Css5 or supperior and some others apps.

Cocos2d is a framework lightweight and free for Continue reading “Tutorial Cocos2d Create Your Simple Game – 1: Installing Cocos2d”

Have you heard about Isometric Games? and Chrono Trigger?

Hellow again guys.

Before I start post something about Sprites, I will need post about Game View Cameras ‘s Concepts of Parallel Projections. If you are following this blog from the beginning, you must know that I’m developing a game, and this blog is about Electronic Games (Development or not) and about the game that I’m working on. So let’s back to the main subject of this post. Do you know what is an Isometric Game?

In video games, “isometric” refers to some form of parallel projection (commonly, the form of dimetric projection mistakenly referred to as “isometric”) where the viewpoint is rotated slightly to reveal other facets of the game environment than are visible from a top-down perspective or side view, thereby producing a three-dimensional effect. The terms “3/4 perspective”, “2.5D” and “pseudo-3D” are also commonly used.

With the advent of more powerful graphics systems, “isometric” projection is becoming less common, instead being replaced by perspective projection.

Did you understand? No? Maybe? Sure! Dur!?

Well, do you know a game very popular with the name of “Chrono Trigger”?

Is really very common the most of the people thinks Continue reading “Have you heard about Isometric Games? and Chrono Trigger?”

Drawing Mountains

Hellow, yesterday and today I was hand-drawing a “background” for the game. I had a “World”, a story and I was looking for a background image, now I have one, but it’s need a lot of  computer work yet with the painting part, but is ok, I will do it later, you can see the image bellow. 🙂

How I did it? It is not hard at all, but requires a lot of patience, different pencils and a nice blender. 😉

And of course I’m not a pro in hand drawing, so I got a great help from a channel from the youtube that I’m following for a little long time, the TylersArtShack Channel. Well I had the “towers”, a “town” in my mind, but I needed ideas for mountains, cliff and forest. And the tutorial “How to Draw the Mountains in  a Myst” comes in handy and helped me a lot. Thx for “Fireproof Babies” the artist from this tutorial. TylersArtShack Channel have a lot of nice drawing tutorials and of course I recommend it if u wanna start drawin. 🙂

Now my next steps shall be Drawing more characters for the game and tomorrow probabily start with the Sprites Part. 🙂

Second Day

Hellow, This month I shall be with focus on the game designing, in other words I will be drawing somethings before to start the game’s code. Why is that? because I think the design part of the game is the hardest one. I don’t know if is because I work with front end programmer, but everytime I see a game project, we have a lot of programmer, and no designer, it is just like a rock band noone want to play the bass guitar. Next week I shall start to paint some drawings and begins with my first steps with xcode and of course I will bring some tutorials here to this blog. 🙂

Today I will be working on drawing some weapons and icons for the game.

First Day: What the Game is About?

Hellow 🙂

The First Day I will be sketching the game and make some brain storming with myself 😦 BUT I will already say what the game will be about. 🙂

So, now I decided, the game will be a “battle, action, rpg” game. In other words, have you already played “Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara” from arcades? “Golden Axe”? Well, it shall be something like this but with a design art medieval and more japanese manga themed.

Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara

The last game that I played with this “theme” was Castle Crashers in the Steam. Is not the best game of the world, but it is very fun anyway and I will be working on something like this from now on for iOS (and later in Android). 🙂

The game won’t be “pixel art”, the sprites shall have high resolution, I think this way will be a little easier and I will be working on a Really Nice System over the game. Anyway I hope everyone likes in the end :).

Pomodoro Technique

Hello Guys, first of all shall explain that I will be using Pomodoro Technique on this project, now what is Pomodoro Technique?

It is a technique created by Francesco Cirillo in the 1980:

The technique uses a timer to break down periods of work into 25-minute intervals called ‘Pomodori’ (from the Italian word for ‘tomatoes’) separated by breaks. Closely related to concepts such as timeboxing and iterative and incremental development used in software design, the method has been adopted in pair programming contexts. The method is based on the idea that frequent breaks can improve mental agility.

There are five basic steps to implementing the technique:

  1. decide on the task to be done
  2. set the pomodoro (timer) to 25 minutes
  3. work on the task until the timer rings; record with an x
  4. take a short break (3-5 minutes)
  5. every four “pomodori” take a longer break (15–30 minutes)

I will be using the software Pomodairo, he does auto-updates from what I’m working on via twitter.

If you want to try this software, it is a freeware and you can download in this link: MAC, Linux or Windows.

Have a lot of others free pomodoro software, but I like this one because of the nice accessibility to twitter and it is very easy to use at all. 🙂

If you want to try some different pomodoro software I recommend too: Pomodoro Time for Mac, Windows and Linux. 🙂

Oh, and if you want to follow me in twitter, i made one for this project just now, follow: @WylNKat
