Why Madoka’s fans disappointed with MagiReco?

If you’ve been excited about MagiReco since it was announced, but after watching all 13 episodes you were surprised the fact that you didn’t like it so much, definitely you aren’t alone. Despite being very popular, there’re a many Madoka’s fans who didn’t like the new spin-off, and the question is “what was the problem with Magia Record”

Well, firstly I love, respect and I am very grateful for the classic Madoka published in Winter 2011, a masterpiece, as well as movies and all the Madoka’s spin-off produced. For me, the classic Madoka broke paradigms and became revolutionary. So, with this thought, I waited for the new anime and didn’t even play the game mobile of Magia Record (which is highly rated on google play).

Then, when I watched excited MagiReco, I became confused about my feelings. Each episode isn’t so bad, but I hoped the next episode would be more intense (if you know what I am talking about). After seeing other blogs and social medias, I realized that many people thought MagiReco is boring. So, before showing the most repetitive discontents that I saw, the answer to the question can be seen in one more way.

Maybe It will be tough, but disappointment is caused by ourselves, on nonfulfillment of our expectations (don’t worry, it’s for me too). I created a lot of expectations in MagiReco and the problem was to think about MagiReco just thinking that it would be the same as the original series. Thinking about the new spin-off without making comparisons, in general, was good, although I think the 2nd season will be better (oh God, more expectations).

Be optimistic isn’t bad, not even be disappointed. Life is full of uncertainties, just don’t get carried away just by negative thoughts. Learning to deal with it all, reflecting on ourselves, makes us grow, be more receptive, and become better people. At least, that’s what I believe.

About MagiReco’s history

The plot had a lot of elements for a good history. An anime with very beautiful art like the classic Madoka, a new city with several magic girls, many witches and other things, the protagonist (Iroha Tamaki) with the same color palette as Kaname Madoka, all of this, added to an opening similar to “conect”, is a great nostalgia. So, the episodes go on and you realize. There is something different.

The first impact was the change in the literary genre. The classic Madoka was marked by a profound psychological drama in the context of magical girls (dark fantasy, thriller, tragedy), which intensified from the 3rd episode. Unfortunately, MagiReco didn’t follow the same line and prioritized the ‘mystery’ and the ‘strength of the friendship’, nothing exceptional in mahou shoujo animes (that’s why people say they miss Gen Urobuchi).

Another discontent refers to the conduct of the story. The protagonist’s plot was good, but it seems that the goal was lost amid so many parallel stories that didn’t contribute significantly. What was it? Ah yes, to find Ui, Iroha’s missing sister, that was forgotten by everyone. With so many magical girls, the story could be amazing, but in the end, their history and appearance became superficial. After all 1st season, we have the impression that there was zero progress. Poor Ui.

Finally, Kamihama City’s witches should be stronger, as Yachiyo Nanami said in her first meeting with Iroha, but nothing seems truly dangerous. Not even Wings of Magius, except for Mami who seemed the strongest threat (but thanks to Sayaka and her fire extinguisher, no one died). Leastways with the collaboration of Walpurgisnacht in 2nd season, things should improve in this respect.

Although MagiReco didn’t exactly fulfill our expectations, we don’t want to see just a dark Mahou Shoujo anime, we want to see another Madoka series! So, a world with one more Madoka spin-off is better than not having it. Isn’t it? 😀
